LACC welcomes children ages 8-12 to audition for its nationally-recognized choral music education and performance program.
When and where do auditions take place?
During 09|10, auditions will take place on June 3-5, 2010. Auditions take place in the music department of Pasadena Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Madison Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. How do I schedule an audition ?
We will begin scheduling auditions in mid-May. Please download a Prospective Chorister Information Form with schedule and return it to the chorus addresss and we will contact you in April to schedule an audition time. You may also contact the Chorus at 626.793.4231 or info@lachildrenschorus.org to request a form.
Is there an audition fee?
Yes. The Chorus charges $50 for each audition to cover costs. Audition scholarships are need-based and available upon request.
If I am accepted, how much will my tuition be?
For the 2009-2010 season, Preparatory Choir tuition is $975, Apprentice Choir tuition is $1,325, Intermediate Choir is $1,400, and Concert Choir is $1,650. Scholarships are available.
Is financial assistance available?
Financial assistance is available on a need basis to help LACC families cover the costs of their chorister’s participation in LACC programs. Financial assistance applications for the 2010-2011 season are due to the LACC Business Manager by one week after the end of auditions. Late applications will not be accepted. To apply for assistance please complete the Financial Assistance Application.
Financial assistance awards are limited to the funds available each year. Financial assistance applications are reviewed in confidence and need-based awards are granted at the discretion of the Finance Committee of LACC’s Board of Directors. Anonymity of the applicant and confidentiality of financial information are maintained throughout the review process and thereafter. LACC’s Executive Director and Business Manager communicate financial assistance decisions.
What happens during the audition?
You will meet the conducting staff. Then, you will audition with several other children for about an hour. You will be asked to talk about your schooling and musical experience. You will listen to and be asked to repeat some rhythmic and musical phrases, sing some new music and answer a few written questions about music. While you are auditioning, your parents will attend a short meeting to become familiar with Los Angeles Children's Chorus, its goals as well as its expectations of choristers and their families.
How should I prepare?
No special preparation is necessary for the audition. It is suggested that you simply get a good night's rest the night before and not eat or drink any dairy products for several hours before your audition.
How will I learn whether or not I was accepted?
Within a few weeks, you will receive a letter notifying you of the results of your audition. Most choristers accepted into the Chorus will be admitted to become members of our two beginning divisions, Preparatory Choir or Apprentice Choir.
When will I rehearse?
Rehearsals for the first three divisions of the Chorus (Preparatory, Apprentice, and Intermediate Choirs) are held once a week, on a weekday in the late afternoon or early evening. Concert Choir rehearses early evenings on Sunday and Tuesday. Included in the rehearsal times are musicianship classes and one-on-one vocal coaching. All rehearsals take place at Pasadena Presbyterian Church (corner of Madison Avenue and Colorado Boulevard).
