AUDITIONS

Children ages 8-12 and young men with changing voices are eligible to audition for LACC’s nationally-recognized choral music education and performance program.

LACC offers children the opportunity to grow musically by supporting their healthy vocal development via a comprehensive, balanced, sequential program. Children enjoy the shared experience of creating choral music with their ensembles, acquire musicianship skills, develop individual voices through one-on-one vocal coaching, and build camaraderie and the “spirit of the ensemble” with fellow choristers at retreats and in rehearsal.

LACC also affords its choristers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to participate in its national and international touring program and experience the stage in collaborative performances with some of the world’s most prestigious companies such as the LA Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Through LACC’s transformative program, children discover their musical ability and creativity in a supportive environment that nurtures the whole child.

Auditions for treble choirs take place each year in late spring; auditions for  Young Men’s Ensemble (YME) take place in August. Auditions take place on the campus of Pasadena Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California.

LOS ANGELES CHILDREN’S CHORUS MEMBERSHIP

Membership in LACC is both a privilege and a responsibility.  Students have an opportunity to create wonderful musical memories and experiences that they will carry with them for a lifetime.  As members, students and families are asked to maintain LACC’s high standards.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your audition time.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE AUDITION?

You and four other children will meet in a group with LACC’s conductors.  You will be asked a few questions about your musical experiences.

Together, you will learn about how LACC teaches singing and you will have fun singing together and individually.  You will have the opportunity to answer a few written questions about music.

You will have an hour-long musical experience with LACC.  During your audition, your parents will attend an orientation to learn more about LACC and its expectations of choristers and their families.

YOUNG MEN’S ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

Boys should prepare one solo art or folk song.

Those interested in auditioning should be proficient in the fundamentals of musical notation and sight singing.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF I AM ACCEPTED?

Within six weeks you will receive a letter notifying you of the results of your audition. Most choristers accepted into LACC will be admitted as members of the Preparatory Choir or Apprentice Choir.

Some will be invited to join the First Experiences in Choral Singing (FECS) Ensemble, which prepares children to advance to the Preparatory Choir.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Financial assistance is available on a need basis to help families cover the costs of their choristers’ participation in LACC programs.
